Frequently Asked Questions

Have A Question?

How often should I have my piano tuned?

We recommend piano tuning 2 times per year if your piano is exposed to seasonal fluctuations in humidity, positioned next to an outside wall or a heat source, or exposed to sunlight. The minimum piano tuning should be once per year which is necessary to maintain the piano in good mechanical condition.
When you schedule a piano tuning, our helpful piano technician will explain to you how a piano works and why regular piano tunings matter. Piano tuning is what gives your piano its maximum musical capabilities.

How Long Does A Piano Tuning Take?

A piano tuning takes about 1 to 1-1/2 hours depending on the last time that the piano was tuned. Pianos that are tuned regularly take less time. Pianos that haven’t been tuned take longer and often require a double piano tuning in order for the piano to hold pitch.

You may fill out our online piano tuning request form on the “Schedule a Tuning” page or call us directly at 1-800-691-1699. We will schedule a date and time that works best for you.

What Is The Difference Between Piano Rebuilding & Piano Restoration?

The goal of piano rebuilding is to restore the playability of the piano. The goal of piano restoration, on the other hand, means restoring the case of your piano to a visually improved condition.

Can Your Piano Technician Do Piano Repairs On-site?

Yes. Most basic piano repairs can be completed in your home on the day of your appointment. Some piano repairs require that parts be ordered which requires a follow-up appointment. However, piano rebuilding or piano restoration projects may require piano moving or moving parts of the piano off-site.

What Do You Recommend When The Environment Is Unstable?

Installing the complete Dampp-Chaser piano climate control system creates a stable micro-environment for your piano during unstable conditions.
